Schengen Action Plan

At the 111th Meeting of the Montenegrin Cabinet, the Government passed the Action Plan for the implementation of the Schengen Action Plan for 2019.  The discussion expressed satisfaction with the high percentage of realisation of the measures envisaged for 2018 (90.48%). During the reporting period, the Draft Law amending the Law on Border Control was passed, whose adoption will improve the normative framework and fulfil the obligations stipulated by the Schengen Action Plan.

The new Law on Foreigners has been successfully implemented, which regulated the entry and exit in a quality way, as well as the movement and stay of foreigners in Montenegro in line with international standards and obligations set out in the Action Plan for Chapter 24. The capacities for the arrival of asylum seekers and enhanced cooperation with international partners regarding their care; the activities and capacities of the border police, as well as cross-border police cooperation and activities on the suppression of cross-border organised crime, have been improved. The focus of the new Plan, inter alia, will be focused on the implementation of measures for which funding from EU funds is foreseen, in the amount of EUR 8 million.

EBRD to Support Montenegro's Development

At an official meeting this week, between Jurgen Rigterink, of the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development (EBRD) and the Montenegro Prime Minister, Dusko Marcovic, it was agreed that the EBRD want to help the development of Montenegro in 3 specific areas: Improving Private Sector Competitiveness; Energy & Infrastructure Integration and greening the economy and sustainable tourism.

Prime Minister Marcovic also pointed out that Montenegro has successfully achieved dynamic economic growth, as a result of their successful economic policies, and that the unemployment rate has reduced, which have been recognised by the EBRD.

VP Rigterink praised the results of the economic policy, highlighting that international reactions are the best indicators of Montenegro’s progress.

Official Opening of Kolašin 1600 ski resort

The brand new gem of Montenegro, the Kolašin 1600 ski resort in the southern part of the Bjelasica Mountain, will be officially opened tomorrow, 16th February 2019.

With an area of some 27.19 hectares, the new resort base village consists of the central zone with hotels, apartments, reception and public facilities and all the usual ski suspects. The ski trails are starting from the base village in such a way that they provide ideal access to skiers.

According to the developers, Kolašin 1600 ski resort will operate one 400 seat restaurant for this inaugural season, along with a planned ski school. The 1600 resort will supposedly operate a six-seat lift with a total capacity of 2,800 skiers per hour to deliver skiers from the base lodge to 2070 meters of altitude.

Situated only 9 kilometers from Kolašin, the 1450 and 1600 ski resorts will eventually have a total of  62.5 kilometers of ski trails.
